The award season

Welcome to the first magazine of the New Year . It seems ‘ normality ’ for us all is continued isolation but Fiona , in an attempt to cheer me up , purchased a world map for Christmas and then gave me a dart and said : “ Throw this and wherever it lands – that ’ s where I ’ m taking you when this pandemic ends .” Turns out , we ’ re spending two weeks behind the fridge ! We are busy fine tuning our 2021 season , which is due to start at Snetterton in mid-April . Obviously , we are in the hands of the UK government and Motorsport UK about exactly when we can re-start racing , but I remain hopeful that we will be able to run our full programme as planned . Certainly , the signs and indicators are looking more positive now , especially now that the UK vaccination programme is going ahead at speed .
We opened our entries for the whole season in February and we hope that you will enter as early as possible . This is really crucial as it helps us plan more effectively and please remember that no monies will be taken until much closer to the event .
You will have heard that our Brands Hatch meeting won the ‘ competitive event of the year ’ award in the Royal Automobile Club Historic Awards . To
win major awards two years running is a great achievement for the Club , which operates with a core HQ team of just four people . The HSCC is a long-established Club and this award underlines its continuing place at the heart of historic racing . In 2019 , our Historic F2 series won the ‘ category of the year award ’. It seemed appropriate to dedicate this award to all those who have lost loved ones during this pandemic and I am proud to have been able to do this on your behalf .
Running the Super Prix last year was a massive logistical challenge for our small team and it proved to be a huge success as the first major postlockdown historic race meeting . Many new procedures and systems had to be implemented to deal with the everpresent COVID issues , but the whole event ran incredibly well and proves that we can still enjoy our motorsport even under restricted conditions . One of the hot topics at the moment is the matters of carnets for going racing in Europe . MSUK has guidance on this on their website and are lobbying Government to get this requirement removed . However , if you are planning to go abroad this season it is important to plan in advance .
