TOLMAN ADVERTORIAL

Tolman Motorsport

Tolman Motorsport was founded in 2007 and has grown into an operation with a broad ranging appeal under the guises of Motorsport , Historic , Restoration and Engineering ; running historic and contemporary racing cars , historic car build , restoration , recreation and design and engineering . With a common aim to achieve outstanding results . Using a mix of knowledge , experience and a real eye for detail . Founder and managing director , Christopher Tolman , worked his apprenticeship with the MOD on aircraft test and evaluation . The requirement to understand the finest detail and apply complete accuracy stood him in good stead for long stints both at Prodrive on the Mondeo BTCC program building engines , and Ralliart for the Mitsubishi WRC programme .
In 2007 Chris went full steam ahead into his own venture to prepare and run rally and race cars .
Chris operates the business with an engineering led ethos . Restoration projects often feature modern techniques and technologies to reproduce obsolete parts ; engineering solutions to age-old problems to make
the car relevant and useable in a modern environment . Tolman have the capability to overcome any obstacle , no matter how obscure or bespoke the solution .
This journey has led the organisation to build a re-creation of a Lotus 19 with HTP , taking a win at its Goodwood Revival debut outing in 2016 .
More recently such cars include a beautifully restored Ralt RT3 , and reengineered Lola T212 .
The RT3 was a full restoration project , arriving at the Tolman workshops quite literally in boxes , with many new and bespoke parts created during its 12-month rebirth . As an example , the addition of a new bespoke wiring loom ensured reliability and safety , as did the highest quality ATEC fuel lines and brake pipe systems . The development program included wind tunnelling testing to evaluate the aero package .
The Lola arrived as a previously operational and running race car . A thorough overhaul commenced , with the crack-testing revealing some critical components that needed to be replaced . The switch gear was updated to a much simpler affair , and a new loom to suit . A new oil system was produced , along with a new fuel system and brake lines – all to modern safety standards .
Both cars have had damper and chassis analysis on a 7 post rig .
This level of engineering ensures a definite known starting point from which to work from when the car is on track .
The outcome has been to produce two beautiful , stunning and reliable racing cars , that the owners are now using and can mould to their driving style .
As Chris Tolman says : “ I take great pride in my team of technicians and engineers who constantly turn out impeccable cars , not just the historic race machines , but our road cars too . Our aim is 100 % reliability , that way our clients can focus on the driving , and competing for race wins . Ultimately , we want our clients to enjoy their cars , and we go to great lengths to ensure they can !”
Tolman Motorsport currently have capacity to run further historic cars in 2021 . For more information , please call Chris Tolman on 01926 633080 .
