Road Sports round-up
The twin Road Sports classes have always been a key element of HSCC racing and 2021 marks 40 years since the original Improved Road Sports Championship was inaugurated . The Historic and 70s Championships are both set for bumper years in 2021 .
Extended track time for Road Sports
The Club has extended the track time available to the Road Sports Championships in response to competitor requests for longer races .
70s Road Sports and Historic Road Sports will each feature at eight race meetings in 2021 and each event will feature a longer race or a double-header . In total , including qualifying , Road Sports racers will have almost six hours of track time this season , with a minimum of a 25-minute race at each event .
Both series enjoyed tremendous support in 2020 , with increased grids that averaged 30 cars in the Historic championship and 28 cars in the 70s category . Over 100 drivers raced in the two championships last season .
The Road Sports classes offer one of the most accessible and affordable routes into historic racing and both series are renowned for excellent ontrack driving standards as well as great camaraderie off the track .

Andy Dee-Crowne said : “ Road Sports are at the heart of what the Club does and both championship are extremely well supported . We ’ ve put together a tremendous package for 2021 covering the UK ’ s leading tracks and we ’ re looking forward to more big grids and competitive and sporting racing .”
New impetus for Historic Road Sports
There will be a fresh impetus to attract cars running to FIA Appendix K regulations into the Historic Road
Sports Championship . The championship had an excellent season in 2020 when average grids were up 25 % to 30 cars , but the Club is still keen to attract more competitors with Appendix K cars .
The invitation goes out to all under 3-litre Appendix K cars , which will include MGBs , Triumph TR4s , Morgans , TVR Granturas and 2-litre Porsche 911s . Cars that confirm to Appendix K but do not have current papers will also be welcome . Over 3-litre cars running to existing Historic Road Sports regulations will remain an integral part of the championship .
To recognise the FIA specification cars , the championship ’ s annual David Barraclough Trophy for the ‘ spirit of the series ’ will be presented for the best performance in an Appendix K car in 2021 . The Porsche Challenge Trophy will again go to the best performer in a Porsche .
Andy Dee-Crowne said : “ Historic Road Sports celebrated 25 years last year and had a tremendous season . We want to build on that success and attract more Appendix K cars to the grid this year . We are also aware that competing in Europe may be more difficult in 2021 , so if any drivers want to join us , even for one race , they will be very welcome .”
Championship chairman Kevin Kivlochan said : “ Last year Brian Arculus came very close to winning the overall championship in his Lotus Elite . There are lots of drivers with Appendix K cars who could come and enjoy top circuits , big and varied grids , excellent driving standards and a warm welcome into a friendly paddock .”
