Use of human albumin in patients with liver cirrhosis in China

Similar to the results of international studies , clinical studies in Chinese patients show that human albumin combined with diuretic can effectively treat ascites due to decompensated cirrhosis and reduce mortality in patients with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis

Albumin is mainly synthesised by the liver and is the main plasma protein of the human body . It plays an important role in maintaining colloid osmotic pressure , transporting various substances , detoxifying , eliminating free radicals , and protecting vascular wall integrity . 1 Decompensated cirrhosis patients suffer from impaired synthesis of albumin , leading to hypoalbuminaemia and decreased colloid osmotic pressure , which become one of the main mechanisms of peripheral tissue oedema and ascites . Ascites is one of the most common complications of decompensated cirrhosis , and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis ( SBP ) is the most common manifestation of cirrhosis patients with infection .
Domestic and international studies have clearly confirmed that supplementing exogenous human albumin to patients with decompensated cirrhosis can expand blood volume , prevent post-paracentesis circulatory dysfunction ( PPCD ), and prevent kidney damage and reduce mortality in patients with SBP . Liver cirrhosis patients with hepatorenal syndrome or hepatic encephalopathy may also benefit from infusion of albumin . This article focuses on the clinical application of human albumin in patients with liver cirrhosis in China .
Effect of human albumin in patients with liver cirrhosis In combination with diuretics in the treatment of ascites due to cirrhosis In the Expert Consensus on Rapid Advice Guidelines for the Pharmacological Management of Human Albumin in Patients with Liver Cirrhosis , human albumin combined with diuretics is recommended for the treatment of ascites due to cirrhosis ( strength of recommendations and the quality of evidence = 1A ). 2 Various clinical studies conducted in patients with liver cirrhosis in China have also confirmed that short-term application of human albumin combined with diuretics has a higher rate of effectiveness , faster decline of ascites , and faster relief of abdominal distension compared with
