IF IT ALL ADDED UP
because I gave it all I had and did not look back. I hope I
learn from my mistakes and never give up. I need to learn
to stand up for myself. I’m a leader, not a follower. I am
good enough and I hope the future me still knows that.
Dear Future Me,
- Sheryl
Hello, how are you? Okay, now that’s too
formal. What I really want to ask is, what did I become?

Am I kind? Am I famous? Did I go to the
college of my dreams? Did I get married? Have kids? Am
I happy? So many questions I want to ask. I just need
to know if it all paid off. If all the nights I stayed up
wondering if I was going to be okay were not wasted. I’ve
worked so hard up until now and I just want to know if
it all added up.
I want to know if I worked hard enough to
be able to buy my Mom a house and give her the life
she wanted. If I graduated with honors, and all that
schoolwork paid off. I want to know if I made the silver
screen or the big stage. I want to know if Bella and Xavier
grew up to be happy. My life consists of knowing this,
because I live to make others happy. I want to know that
I made it in life, that all the things I did were worth it.
I want to know if I found love because I am a hopeless
romantic. I want to know if I got into Julliard. Did I ever
make it onto the big stage?
I hope I am better in the future. That growing
up did me good.
I hope I no longer seek revenge when things
don’t go my way, and that I learn to forgive. That I learn
to accept things for what they are and not judge.
Please let me learn to take risks and live life.
I want to be able to say I never regretted anything
