ANDREA SILVA WHAT IT DOESN’T TAKE TO BE HUMAN Walking through the New York City streets, people rush by in suits, dresses, casual clothing, or no clothing at all. All trying to do something, go somewhere and become something great. Some are wearing thousand dollar watches while some are lucky to collect five dollars at the train station. I’m sorry, homeless man; you deserve a name more than a low title. And I apologize for the name-calling of kids who are too innocent and immature to know you aren’t dirty, you just have no money to shower. A man with a freshly-pressed suit moves quickly along the platform as he ignores your presence on the ground, and continues to make it worse by stepping on the only garments you own, without apologizing or having any pity at all. Why do people have to be so cruel? Why do people through mountains and valleys, cities and towns, all have to be so cruel? All sorts of beautiful people surround each and every one of us, but throughout all of time, people never seem to change. We’re all human; don’t ruin that, too. No need for competition, envy or immaturity; take pleasure in life and be happy. Feeling the cool air touching your soft shoulders and smelling the fresh oxygen that can almost allow your lungs to taste the mintiness of the trees, you wait in line trying to enjoy the time of day to climb mountains with your closest friends.
