THE STORY OF OUR FRIENDSHIP Do you remember that day last June? When we went to Coney Island We spent the entire time on kiddie rides And I was afraid I’d get a tan around my glasses Do you remember the fun we had? And the enormous gummy bears we bought Because I do I remember it all That was the last day The last day we had an actual conversation The last day we were the best pair of best friends at our school Do you remember, because if you do, then maybe there’s hope? I failed epically at trying to drink my soda faster than Yerlin You said my name and laughed just like we were friends again And that was the moment I realized there might still be hope Do you remember being asked if we were still friends? Because I do I froze every time because I was unsure myself But I soon realized that the answer was and always is no Do you remember the story of our friendship? Because I do. I remember everything. Do you remember that day last September? It was the first day of school We said our usual “Hi, I missed you, how was your summer?” Trying to hide the many mosquito bites down our arms and legs Do you remember that day when I confronted you in the hall? And asked what it was that I could have possibly done to upset you Do you remember your response every time I tried to talk to you? Because I do: “Now is not a good time, now is not a good time” Do you remember that day you
