DON’T OVERDO YOUR
INTERNET ACCESS
ON YOUR PHONE
Dear Self,
The exact words the
doctor said today, July 1, 2014,
were: “I’m sorry, but your daughter
has amnesia.” You thought it was a
joke. You started laughing, and then
said nothing. Mom and Dad couldn’t
believe it. Mom’s eyes filled with tears
and she left the room. The days will
go by, but you should continue to
live your life, go to school, eat and
sleep—the usual routine. I just want
to write this letter to remind you of
important things in your life.
Your full name is Chelsea
Daniela Alonzo Acebo and you are
Ecuadorian. You have a wonderful
family that supports you through
thick and thin. You have two younger
sisters. One of them is named
Adenike, but all of us call her Abby,
or Abichuela—heads up, she hates it
when we call her that. She is probably
very big and smart by now.
You also have Genesis,
known by everyone as Gena. She got
that nickname in Virginia when you
went to visit your Grandpa. “Papiti,”
you and your sisters call him. You love
bothering your sisters and they love

annoying you, especially Abby, always
telling Mom every single movement
you make.
tend to give attitude, but you have to
learn how to control that. Being nice
is so important.
Enough about your
sisters—let me tell you about your
parents, Pety and Jorge. They are still
together. Both want the very best for
you and your sisters. Please make sure
to always thank them for the small
things they do. They make a lot of
sacrifices to get the best for you and
the girls.
Britnney is your cousin.
You guys have been together since the
day you were born. In your childhood
days, you guys hated each other, but
throughout your teen years you have
grown to love each other and are
inseparable now. You tell her everything and go to her for advice, even
when it comes to fashion.
You have a lot of dreams
and goals in life. You love science.
Never give up! You have come a long
way, so don’t give up now. With regard
to college, you are not really sure
where you want to go. You have always
wanted to travel—never let that go.
You have dreamed your whole life of
traveling, but remember, don’t rush
through life.
Remember, keep enjoying
life and keep referring back to this
letter. It will always be here for you!
Well, I am not going to
write a book, but let me tell you a
few more things.
You like to cook. You
cook for fun and whenever you get
hungry, but not many people know
this about you. Also, I want to remind
you, don’t overdo your Internet access
on your phone. I know it can be
extremely tempting to turn it on but
just remember your Mom is making
an effort to pay for that. Another
thing—and Mom always reminds
you of this 24/7, but—be humble.
Never lose that. I know at times you
Sincerely,
Chelsea Alonzo
