One initiative is the equivalent of taking 211 million passenger cars off the road for a year Our partnership with Walmart is a case in point. Like HP, Walmart believes a commitment to sustainability can deliver significant and lasting environmental and social benefits, while improving the operation of its business. In 2017, Walmart announced an ambitious supply chain initiative, called Project Gigaton. Through this initiative, Walmart is working with suppliers, like HP, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1 billion metric tons from the production and use of the products it sells between 2015 and 2030. To put that into perspective, that’s the equivalent of taking more than 211 million passenger vehicles off the road for one year. As a leader in sustainability, we will also support Walmart’s efforts by sharing best practices, case studies, and other information that we believe could help other companies as they set their emissions goals and work toward them. HP is supporting Project Gigaton through GHG emissions reduction goals we set in three areas: 1. HP product GHG emissions intensity measures GHG emissions during product lifetime use per unit for personal systems and per printed page for printers based on anticipated lifetime usage. These values are then weighted by contribution of personal systems and printing products to overall revenue in the current year. These emissions represent more than 99 percent of HP product units shipped each year, including notebooks, tablets, desktops, mobile computing devices, and workstations; and HP inkjet, LaserJet, DesignJet, Indigo, and Scitex printers, and scanners. • Products: Reduce the GHG emissions intensity of our product portfolio by 25 percent by 2020, compared 1 to 2010 • Deforestation: Achieve zero deforestation associated with HP brand paper and paper-based product 2 packaging by 2020 • Emissions: Reduce the GHG emissions from our global operations by 25 percent by 2025, compared to 2015 Innovation Journal Sustainable Impact HP and its partners believe that sustainability is an innovation that drives brand loyalty, increases employee engagement, and delivers long-term business success. Working together—and with other businesses and organizations across multiple industries—we are helping build a future where sustainability is part of the very fabric of business. 2. Packaging is the box that comes with the product and all paper (including packaging and materials) inside the box.
