Built in the sunny northern suburb of Sant Cugat del Vallès, once home to fields and vineyards, a photovoltaic canopy provides 110kW of power.
The Center was created to continue HP’s innovative legacy
as a state-of-the-art facility, delivering promising tech-
nology and new products. In addition, the Center honors
HP’s commitment to sustainability by using rainwater
for sanitation and irrigation, environmentally friendly
construction materials, natural light, and a photovoltaic
canopy for power.
The initial 3D printing technology, HP’s Multi Jet Fusion,
was invented in the Barcelona labs, and the new Center
is adding applications to HP’s 3D printing portfolio of
new materials, certifications, and software. It’s at this
Center, in conjunction with the work being done at our
center in Corvallis, Oregon, that HP is developing the
new Metal Jet products.
Beyond creating new products and materials, the Center
of Excellence is the place where HP learns and applies the
customer insights needed to invent and develop for the
future, and to accelerate the movement from analog to
digital in the manufacturing world.

Designed to enable active collaboration between engineers,
R&D groups, customers, and partners, the Center has
flexible layouts, interactive environments, and access to the
latest HP 3D production systems. There, customers and
partners are able to participate deeply with HP in the
development of new solutions, such as printers, materials,
software, and services. Collaboration is the key to creating
and developing these customer solutions. Leaders from
numerous industries, including Siemens, Volkswagen, and
BASF, are using the Center to collaborate with HP on new
innovations in digital manufacturing and 3D printing. By
bringing together the world’s largest group of additive man-
ufacturing specialists and providing a large-scale factory
environment for collaborating with customers and partners,
this Center has the potential to completely reinvent the way
the world designs and manufactures.
We’re thrilled this innovation is happening in a city where
history and the future intersect.
