TRENDS WITH THE GREATEST POTENTIAL IMPACT
At HP we’ve identified four major megatrends that we
believe will have the greatest long-term impact on our
industry, customers, partners, and our own business.

Rapid Urbanization Changing Demographics
By 2030 there will be 8.5 billion 1 people walking
the earth. Upwards of 6 million people a month
are currently moving to cities for the promise of
a better life. Cities will become larger by 2030,
with nearly 50 megacities of greater than 10
million people. With bigger cities comes major
economic growth, particularly in emerging
markets. New waves of consumers will enter
the world economy, expanding the middle class
across a broader spectrum of geographies,
countries, and cities. At the same time, people are living longer and the
demographic makeup of the global population
is shifting. Older workers and millennials are
being joined by a new generation, Generation Z
(Gen Z), which is expected to comprise 36% of
the global workforce by 2020. 2 This generation
was raised with the Internet in their hands,
is hyper-aware of global issues, and expects
more from their jobs. Companies will need to
look at how they can attract and retain a highly
diverse workforce, from socially responsible and
nomadic Gen Z workers to aging second-career
employees, and even robots and AI workers.
