Form and Function
The HP Molded Fiber Advanced Tooling Solution uses customized tooling and computational fluid dynamics and perforation techniques . The tooling consists of a ➊ 3D-printed form , ➋ screen , and ➌ transfer that are immersed in a slurry of water and recycled fibers . A vacuum then draws the slurry onto the screen , which is attached to the form , effectively keeping the pulp fibers on the outside while maintaining the desired shape and allowing the water to flow through it . The efficient water flow is ensured by the transfer piece of the mold , which houses the finished part .
