I ’ VE BEEN THINKING about a question that every one of us should consider : How do we want our company to be remembered ? Five , 10 , or 15 years from now , what do we want to have achieved ? Will we have made a difference in the world ?
This has been a profoundly difficult year . The global pandemic , the systemic racism and inequality that persist within many societies , and the growing threats associated with climate change have been stark reminders of what ’ s at stake as we confront the defining issues of our time .
How we respond to these challenges is up to us . We can resign ourselves to the status quo , or we can rise to the moment and pave new paths forward .
For HP , the choice is clear . Throughout our history , the times of greatest struggle have often served as catalysts for our greatest progress . We will continue to be guided by the core values on which our company is built by making a sustainable impact that benefits the planet , and the people and communities we serve . We will lead with our values of equal opportunities and human rights for all .
This is not only the right thing to do . It ’ s the smart , forward-looking thing to do for any business that wants to remain relevant in the 21st century .
Because , within our broader societal challenges lies untold opportunity for innovation and growth . And across HP , we are already seeing the opportunities we have to drive new breakthroughs that will shape a better tomorrow .
J We are harnessing the power of technology to keep people connected , bridge the digital divide , and allow students to continue learning during a period of social distancing and remote education .
J We are engineering more sustainable solutions that will grow our business while shrinking our environmental footprint .
J We are pioneering innovations that are disrupting old ways of doing business — paving the way for more flexible , resilient supply
chains as well as new , personalized solutions that enable us to serve “ industries of one .” At the same time , we are exploring entirely new frontiers such as microfluidics , where our technology has the potential to unleash new breakthroughs across a wide range of industries , including healthcare .
J We are setting our sights higher when it comes to diversity and inclusion . We have experienced firsthand how this drives innovation and performance , and we still have more to do at all levels of the company to create a workforce that fully reflects the customers and markets we serve .
The challenges of the past year have revealed just how interconnected all of us are , and the only way we will overcome them — and unlock the kind of innovation that will lift up everyone , everywhere — is by working together .
Which brings me back to my original question about how we want our company to be remembered . For me , it ’ s a combination of three things . I want to keep reinventing our Personal Systems and Print categories with new innovations , new business models , and new customer experiences . At the same time , I want us to expand into new businesses where our technology can help people to live better .
I want HP to be viewed across the globe as an academy company where high-performance , purpose-driven leaders come to thrive .
And I want HP to become a lighthouse for equality and sustainability , shining the way forward for others to follow .
These values and aspirations are core to who we are — and who we ’ ve always been . And because of them , I know we will emerge stronger as a company , as a society , and as a global community .
Saludos ,
