to repeat something they said to be sure you understood,
or to ask them to slow down so you can be sure you got it.
Do what you need to do to be sure that you really heard them and
understood them.
Once you’re sure you understand, and the person you’re listening to
agrees that you got it, then the next thing that’s great to do is to share
how you’re feeling about hearing their story. Keep the focus on them as
you’re speaking, and share your reactions so they know how you
related to them.
