Let's Interview a Chemical Engineer!

Richard Au has been in the field of chemical engineering for over 25 years. He entered the world of ExxonMobil right out of college. He graduated from California State University Long Beach with the skills needed for chemical engineering. The following was an interview taken on May 5th 2015.

Q. First off, what made you decide to become a chemical engineer?

A. I enjoyed chemistry in high school and had a great chemistry teacher who was very involved in my classes. I also enjoyed math classes that pushed me to this field.

Q. What was the most enjoyable part of becoming a chemical engineer?

A. Solving real life problems that helped me to become a full-fledged chemical engineering.

Q. What do you do in your usual day at work?

A. I currently hold the title of Operations Support Manager. I manage the workers who operate the plant where i work to make sure they are working safely and reliably.

Q. Is there any benefits about being a chemical engineer?

A. There are a lot of benefits that ExxonMobil offers for its employees. Some of them include good medical insurance, paid vacation, and a matching retirement plan.

Q. What is a matching retirement plan?

A. The benefit of a matching retirement plan is that for however much you put into a retirement plan with ExxonMobil, with a limit of your salary of course, they will double it when you retire.
