community news San José Clinic Urgently Needs Your Help to Replace Equipment S an José Clinic, the oldest charity clinic in Houston, has been offering high-quality healthcare services to the underserved populations of Texas since 1922. We fulfill our mission by providing a diverse offering of high-quality healthcare services at a single central location. Our services include primary and specialty medical and dental care, as well as vision, laboratory and pharmacy services. We are a member institution of the Texas Medical Center, a top-ranked healthcare program sponsored by the United Way of Greater Houston, and a proud ministry of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. We are the only multi-disciplinary clinic in Houston which exclusively serves uninsured, low-income residents. Our fund- ing structure is also unique. We do not receive government funding in support of our services. Instead, we depend on vol- unteer hours, donated supplies, medications, and philanthropic support to sustain our mission. Our patients are all uninsured, with nearly half living at or below the federal poverty level, an amount equal to $25,100 for a family of four. Approximately 80% of our patients are His- panic. In 2018, San José Clinic provided 30,548 visits to 3,584 patients. San José Clinic’s broad scope of services is available to individuals of all ages, denominations, races, ethnicities and genders. We have no geographic restrictions, so San José Clinic services 30 counties and more than 220 zip codes across south- east Texas. We are looking to convert our current x-ray system to a com- pletely digital system in order to maintain digital dental records. At this current, time, we rely on paper charts and x-ray film to conduct intraoral x-rays. This system is cumbersome, outdated, and inefficient compared to a digital x-ray system. Having digital x-rays will help us save valuable staff time and it will also allow us to deliver results to patients more quickly. A new digital x-ray system will help us to improve the quality of care delivered to our patients. It will also bolster the long- term sustainability of our dental department. We have already gathered a series of price quotes for the new pieces of equip- ment. Thus, upon receipt of funds, we will be able to purchase and install the new digital x-ray system, thereby ensuring our compliance with industry standards of safety and quality. Our services are crucial for our patients, many of whom would otherwise lack consistent access to the dental care they so des- perately need. After 97 years of service, our mission to provide quality healthcare and education to those with limited access to such services in an environment which respects the dignity of each person remains as important as ever. By donating to our cause, you can make high-quality, affordable dental care available to thousands of uninsured, underserved Texans. The funds we request are greatly needed at our dental clinic. This is an urgent request, so the timeline is short. We hope to reach our goal of $30,000. With your help, we can reach our goal! It is our sincere hope that you see the value of our service to the community and that you make a gift today.
