NEWS & notes earned this rare honor, four members received their Lifelong Learning & Service Recognition (LLSR) Awards. The LLSR is a formal recognition for AGD members who have obtained their Mastership, but also go above and beyond in pursuit of continuing education to remain current in dentistry while giving back to their community. The Texas Academy of General Dentistry is thrilled to receive the national Constituent of the Year Award! The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) presented the Texas Academy of General Dentistry (TAGD) with the national Constituent of the Year Award at the annual AGD conference in Boston. The Constituent of the Year Award recognizes the constituent who displays strength in each area of constituent activity representing governance and administration, continuing education, communication, membership and public information. TAGD also accepted awards for their advocacy, communications, continuing education and public information programs. TAGD President, Dr. James Bone, and the Texas Delegates received these awards on behalf of the organization. Applications for the awards are accepted from state constituents around the country as well as Canada and require intensive documentation to earn each award. TAGD is proud that it has received the highest honor – Constituent of the Year – nine years in a row. “The Texas Academy of General Dentistry, passionate in helping general dentists succeed, is again honored and excited to be recognized nationally as the Constituent of the Year.” said Dr. Bone. “Our members are awesome! Their accomplishments in Fellowship, Mastership and Lifelong Learning, as well as, their efforts in leadership, mentorship and advocacy help make TAGD great!” 48 Texas AGD members receive high honors A total of 48 Texas Academy of General Dentistry members were honored with the presentation of Fellowship, Mastership, and Lifelong Learning & Service Recognition Awards during the convocation ceremony at the 2016 Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) Annual Meeting in Boston. Twenty-nine members distinguished themselves professionally by completing 500 hours of continuing dental education, passing a comprehensive exam and fulfilling three years of continuous membership in the AGD in order to earn their Fellowship. Only 6% of general dentists hold their Fellowship in the State of Texas. An additional 15 members were awarded the AGD Mastership Award, the highest honor available at the AGD and one of the most respected designations within the dental profession. To accomplish this goal, each completed at least 1,100 hours of continuing dental education. Mastership reflects a general dentist’s ongoing commitment to providing quality patient care through continuing education. Fewer than 1% of general dentists in the entire nation and only 2% in the State of Texas have earned this designation. Joining only 22 others in Texas who have “The Texas AGD is proud of our Fellow, Master, and LLSR award recipients,” said TAGD President, James Bone, MS, DDS, MAGD. “The AGD was founded on commitment to lifelong learning and the oral health of the public.
