Bicycles Bicycles can be stored in the resident’s room with the roommate’s permission. Bicycles should not be chained to rails, columns, or stairwells or placed in hallways. Bicycles are not to be ridden inside the apartments. Bicycles and properly state registered and inspected motor vehicles are allowed on designated streets, roadways, and surface parking areas. In the interest of safety, operating or riding hoverboards, longboards, rollerblades, scooters, Segways, skateboards, etc. is prohibited in Collin College parking garages and/or buildings, unless authorized by the ACCESS Office or Human Resources Office as a reasonable accommodation required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or other federal law. Pedestrians have the right of way on Collin College sidewalks. Businesses and Private Enterprises Conducting any kind of business in a student resident’s apartment or anywhere in the Collin College Student Housing community is strictly prohibited. Failure to comply with this policy will lead to disciplinary action through the Dean of Students Office, in accordance with the current Student Code of Conduct. Bystander Intervention Bystander intervention occurs when a witness speaks up and/or steps in to stop a potentially dangerous situation. Bystanders often do not become involved in a situation because they do not know what to do, are worried about their own safety, or think other witnesses will intervene. The entire campus community, including student residents, plays a vital role in preventing acts that violate Collin College's Core Value of Dignity and Respect. As a roommate, friend, classmate, partner, 2019-2020 Collin College Resident Handbook family member, etc., you are in a unique position – you have the power to intervene and stop a potentially dangerous situation before it occurs. Cancellation Policy If a student resident needs to cancel his or her Collin College Student Housing Lease Agreement, the student resident will be held to the cancellation rules, as outlined in that agreement. Candles and Open Flames Candles and open flames are not allowed in Collin College Student Housing. This includes, but is not limited to, incense, scented wax warmers (except those warmed by a light bulb), oil lamps, wax sculptures, and other devices that use an open flame. Collin College Student Housing Leasing Office Hours and Closings Collin College Student Housing Leasing Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The office may occasionally close for holidays, inclement weather, or other circumstances. If the office is closed, a sign will be placed on the office front door. The sign will include information as to when the office will be closed, when it will reopen, and the number to call for maintenance emergencies. For scheduled closings, the director of student housing operations or designee will provide a minimum of 72 hours’ notice prior to the date of closing. Cleaning and Cleanliness Student residents should make reasonable efforts to maintain proper personal cleanliness and hygiene. Rooms and apartments must be kept clean and sanitary at all times, including proper disposal of empty food and beverage containers. Student residents may not violate these regulations or Page 7
