Festivals and Events 2017 28 Mar 17 Nyepi Day Known as the day of silence, Nyepi marks the celebration of the Balinese New Year in the Hindu Lunar calendar. On this day the island literally shuts down. Hotels do not accept guests arrival, facilities outside of the resort are limited, vehicles are not allowed on the streets and use of electricity is restricted. 4 Moving away from the main beaches, Bali’s interior is a maze of fertile grassy plains, terraced rice paddies, striking lakes and vast volcanic mountains. The east coast is an area of great historical, cultural and spiritual significance with some of the most breathtaking natural scenery and idyllic village life on the island. This incredible landscape is only outdone by the warmth and friendliness of Balinese people. However you look at it, Bali is great value! Accommodation is well priced and plentiful, the shopping abundant, varied and cheap, and the food is delicious; think lemongrass, coriander, tamarind and ginger. You will never cease to be amazed at how the real beauty of Bali will reveal itself.
