Franz Pfeil ’ s list of Motuihe internees and their post -war status , for those for whom he had knowledge — and there were remarkably many — appears to have been written in or after 1936 , with one hand annotation dated in 1940 . Deceased persons have been noted with the German word ‘ gestorben ’ or with a small hand-drawn cross .
