L ove it or loathe it , technology today has infiltrated our lives in ways we never thought possible . Futuristic films may have promised robots and flying cars , but it ’ s handheld devices that have most radically shaped how we move through the world . We look down at screens instead of down the street , shoot off texts over picking up the phone and hail a cab with the tap of a button . But the vision that technology will replace our need for human interaction is simply wrong .
On the contrary , technology has enabled connectivity in incredible ways . We can see a faraway loved one ’ s face in seconds . We can share real-time reaction to global events without waiting for the newspaper to be printed . The digital landscape has dramatically impacted how we consume , communicate and navigate the world today .
However , instead of focusing on the race for innovation , we should be asking how tech-
