HOTELS TALKED TO FIVE NYU HOTEL SCHOOL STUDENTS TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR IN AN EMPLOYER AND OPPORTUNITIES TO GROW .

Time immemorial , hoteliers will say their number one challenge is growing and retaining great team members for their organizations . If there were known tricks the challenge would have been conquered a long time ago . The fact is , the hospitality career is very demanding and finding people who have passion for the business is never easy , yet a must .

Understanding how to feed that requisite love for hospitality can be tricky in an era of disruption and never-ending information flow , which act to either entice or create uproars in the workplace . To better
understand what appeals to next-gen hoteliers right now , HOTELS sat down in June with five students enrolled at the Jonathan M . Tisch Center of Hospitality at New York University to find out what motivates them and what they look for in potential employers . The short answer : a great company culture and varied opportunities to expand their knowledge base .

Five Jonathan M . Tisch Center of Hospitality at New York University students sat down with HOTELS in June to talk about career aspirations and what they are looking for in an employer .
Anna Montgomery , graduate student , New York City , who wants to initially get some hotel design experience but longer-term definitely wants to own her own hotel . She is also the mother of three children .
Daijie “ Haley ” Yuan , graduate student , Shantou , China , who wants to start with revenue analytics and asset management experience , followed by asset management consulting .
Eng Sou Ea , undergraduate student , Phnom Penh , Cambodia , who wants to get some operations experience , followed by real estate consultancy and eventually return to Cambodia to develop her own hotel .
Tristan Jordan , undergraduate student , North Brunswick , New Jersey , who wants some initial consulting experience and development experience and eventually wants to own a hotel .
Fangyi “ Harper ” Lan , Guangzhou , China , who wants to work for an investment consulting firm and longterm start a hotel design firm .
