WE ARE HIRING . Benguela - Angola
THE INTERVIEW : ERIC DANZIGER they ’ re doing really , really well .
If you take a look at a group or a company , generally speaking , what they want is to be sure that the people they put in a hotel have that great experience .
I do not see that Mr . Trump ’ s candidacy has affected us greatly to this point and I really can ’ t see that it will as long as we do a good job of running our business .
You can agree or disagree with Mr . Trump , but I love that he is so outspoken and demanding because that ’ s also what helps make a great hotel company . H : What is your initial focus ? ED : Quickly , I have to meet people . I ’ ve heard from everybody how thrilled they are that there ’ s a hotel guy running the company compared to a private equity or Wall Street guy , or a CFO . I ’ m a hotel guy . Then I want to get out to the field and go to every hotel and meet owners and
people . Then , I want to start playing to win . I ’ ll also reach to owners that I ’ ve built relationships with over the years . It ’ s really all about touch , feel , connectivity and putting the team on the field that works to advance the ball downfield .
H : How are you passionate about the hotel business ?
ED : I ’ m passionate about the people first because it is a people business . All businesses say that but it ’ s ultimately more about the delivery of passion than it is anything else .
That is the story of the hospitality business . I look at data , but I don ’ t let data outweigh instinct , which comes from people ’ s use of their heads , their hearts and their life experiences to make a decision . It is ultimately all about the way in which hoteliers operate and lead people .
My greatest joy is to believe that almost any owner or employee who ever worked with me would do so again . And that is the litmus test that a leader should have . You can ’ t do good work for a company if you don ’ t do it for others .
H : How did this opportunity present itself ?
ED : I met with the next generation a few times and really , truly enjoyed them , and felt a great kinship with them . I think they respect my career achievements , but they also wanted somebody that they would like working with and hopefully I came across as a nice guy that they ’ ll like . I couldn ’ t pick the timing ; it was now .
It ’ s not even so much the deal . In my mind , this will be the last phase of my career . It was about ending it at the right place , with the right people , with the right brand . It ’ s what I ’ ve referred to as closing the arc of my career .
