PERHAPS IT STARTED at age 5 when Jonathan Tisch saluted and shook the hand of U . S . President Eisenhower at his grandparent ’ s Traymore hotel in Atlantic City . Or maybe it was watching for so many years with deep admiration his father , Preston Robert Tisch , and uncle Larry Tisch partner first as hotel operators and developers and then as corporate titans growing Loews Corp .

It could be related to his own big moment the day after 9 / 11 when Tisch was asked to help lead New York Rising , an organization that trumpeted travel and tourism to put the city back on its feet .
Whatever it was , Tisch , now chairman of Loews Hotels & Resorts and co-chairman of Loews Corp ., seems to have recognized a calling , first to join the family company , but perhaps more important , to be the keeper of the brand , the soul of the family business that started in mid-1940s in New Jersey , and to become a national leader and spokesman for the hotel industry . “ We have 25 distinct , disparate properties that are tied together by a soul and by design , and by an understanding of our responsibility to our customers , team members and community ,” says Tisch , who has been a part of the family-led business for more than 35 years .
It is Tisch ’ s broader philosophy – being inclusive and a good listener , as well as genuine and kind – that perhaps led the readers of HOTELS to vote Tisch
