HELPING each other

HOW ARE YOU HELPING TEAM MEMBERS AND HOW ARE YOU PERSONALLY MANAGING THROUGH THE CRISIS ?
Michael Hoffmann , managing director , Perry Cabin Resorts & Golf , St . Michaels , Maryland “ Be straight , honest and communicate to them regularly . We are covering the benefits for anyone that ’ s been impacted until they return .
“ I ’ m try to stick to the daily routine , exercise , celebrate success , wins and share gratitude every day to find a positive in the madness .”
Brad Walker , vice president , GM , The Brown Hotel , Louisville , Kentucky “ We offered alternative jobs utilizing other skill sets such as painting , sanitizing and light maintenance work .
“ We have over 30 hotel staff working in areas outside their regular department , polishing up the hotel to prepare for a full house when things get back to business as usual . The line staff will be painting — all the guest room doors ; housekeeping storage areas ; guest room closets ; service elevator landings ; throughout the basement ; all the back stairwells and employee cafeteria . They will be changing HVAC filters , waxing marble floors and shampooing all carpets / chairs along with other jobs that we usually contract to outside companies .”
Cecil Staton , president and CEO , Asian American Hotel Owners Association “ With our entire professional staff working remotely , our senior staff holds a daily call to discuss our ongoing approach to this crisis and how we can best serve our members . Our education team is creating daily webinars and compiling relevant information for our members .”
Puneet Chhatwal , managing director , CEO , The Indian Hotels Co . Ltd ., Mumbai “ Being digitally connected to the world has served well in terms of being reasonably updated on a real-time basis .
“ Social distancing is a key to help contain the spread of this virus and has given us the opportunity for some much-needed reflection . Adjusting to the new lifestyle of avoiding travel , working from home and partaking in some simple everyday pleasures like cooking , eating home food , being around for the family , experiencing freedom and calm certainly helps with enhanced health and social well-being .”
Geoff Ballotti , president , CEO , Wyndham Hotels & Resorts , Parsippany , New Jersey “ Keeping our routines while working remotely . We have an immensely talented team running head-first into this crisis , and we connect every morning at 8 a . m . and again at close of business . This is extremely helpful to me as I try to look at the big picture , assess the totality of the situation , and help guide the team . Personally , I ’ m waking up as I always do at 5 a . m ., getting a work-out in , eating as healthy as I possibly can , and trying to get to bed by 8:30 p . m . ( which hasn ’ t been working so well for me lately ).”
