INTERGASTRA TO HOST IKA / CULINARY OLYMPICS

The 25th IKA / Culinary Olympics will take place February 14-19 , 2020 , at the Intergastra trade fair at Messe Stuttgart in Stuttgart , Germany . The four-day competition allows visitors to sample dishes from around the world . Organizers estimate that about 2,000 chefs and pastry chefs from more than 60 countries will compete .
“ Intergastra , with its structured hall layout and extraordinary scope of exhibitors from the hotel and gastronomy business , preset the entire world of hospitality . The IKA / Culinary Olympics benefits from such a platform , and we benefit from its international character ,” says Ulrich Kromer von Baerle , president , Messe Stuttgart .
To give teams time to prepare for next year ’ s competition , the cooking schedules for the 32 national and 24 junior national teams were determined this past February through a draw carried out by gymnasts and Olympic athletes Fabian Hambüchen and Tabea Alt . Team representatives from Japan , Canada , Sweden , the Czech Republic , Denmark , Austria , Switzerland and the United States were on hand for the launch .

HOSHIZAKI WINS KITCHEN INNOVATIONS AWARD
MODwater from Hoshizaki America supplies sparkling , chilled , hot and alkaline water . Hoshizaki America took home a Kitchen Innovations Award from the National Restaurant Association for Hoshizaki ’ s MODwater dispenser . The Kitchen Innovations Award recognizes progressive new equipment that increases efficiencies and productivity . This is the second year in a row that Hoshizaki has won the award .
MODwater features a patented carbonation technology that delivers up to 20 gallons ( 78 liters ) of sparkling water per hour without using a carbonator tank or pump while also dispensing chilled , hot and alkaline water . The device saves space , eliminates the need to buy water bottles , saves labor needed to clean and refill decanters and also helps the environment by reducing single-use plastic bottles .
WILLIAMSBURG INN CHOOSES RIEGEL LINEN
The historic Williamsburg Inn in Williamsburg , Virginia , selected Riegel Linen ’ s 100 % long staple cotton linens for its Rockefeller Room restaurant . The linens have a design detail in the weave and are dyed a soft pink to complement the restaurant .
“ When we set out to update the Rockefeller Room , we knew we wanted a natural-fiber linen that looked and felt luxurious ,” says Cheryl Griggs , director of interior and exterior design for Colonial Williamsburg Foundation . “ Cotton has a better hand to it ; the feel of the fibers is far better than what you will find with a synthetic .”
