Masson , a French master who helms Majorelle – which replaces Lowell ’ s former upscale steakhouse , The Post House – previously ran the nowshuttered Lespinasse before working for David Bouley and then becoming executive chef at La Mangeoire .

According to the hotel ’ s general manager , Kyoto ’ s mayor has encouraged foreign investment , in a bid to increase the city ’ s number of bedrooms . Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto ’ s owners , Malaysiabased Berjaya , wanted a 5-star hotel and have sunk the money in to get it .
