EDGY AND NOSTALGIC Edginess is de rigueur for the Sinner ’ s “ sharp and smart ” 20-to-30-year-old fashion industry clientele , and Auer ’ s concept delivers . Sinner ’ s restaurant transitions into a late-night dance club , while each bedroom ’ s unique vinyl collection gives return guests new experiences . Sensorial immersion mixes with nostalgia , especially for the 1980s , when Auer came of age .
“ I was born in the 1970s , and at 10 years old first saw what was possible , what was open ,” he says . “ For me , nothing was too serious in the ’ 80s . It was about getting dressed up to go out .” This playful frivolity is just part of what makes the design personal for Auer . “ My grandparents were religious , my parents less so , and I ’ m not at all ,” he says , “ but our collective past experiences still shape our perspective .”
Although Sinner Paris feels a bit scandalous , it ’ s not meant to be sacrilegious , says Auer . The interiors are an artistic expression of the culture born from the Marais ’ past .
