WINE PROGRAMS CAN ENGAGE AND EDUCATE GUESTS . GOOD ONES START WITH YOUR STAFF — AND A STRATEGY .

perfect pairing of wine and food is when the wine is good and the food is good — but together , the results are sublime .
The same can be said for hotels that do wine well : The experience turns into something memorable and exquisite . While it sounds like magic or alchemy , hotels that feature , for instance , amazing wine experiences have a few things in common : They all make the wine a priority , and they all use innovative and creative ways to enchant guests , often creating return customers in the process .
COMMIT TO A PROGRAM When the Britannia Hotel reopened in April 2019 in Trondheim , Norway , the hotel ’ s owners committed to increasing the hotel ’ s emphasis on wine . “ They wanted to create one of Norway ’ s best wine programs , so they started by hiring a wine consultant before it re-opened ,” says Ida Donheim , restaurant director .
The hotel also committed to hiring sommeliers — both Donheim and the hotel ’ s GM are certified sommeliers — training staff and getting them certified , as well . Today , the hotel has 15 certified
