Hotels are expanding both the communication and features of their apps to enable guests to control almost all aspects of their experience , including managing their room environment , from a single
touchpoint . Hotel app features now include checkin to the hotel , acting as a mobile room key , in-room television remote control , changing the thermostat in the guestroom and messaging with staff , as well as ordering services , including room
service , spa and car hires .
Instead of using one of the white label apps available for customization , Virgin Hotels developed Lucy to interact with the hotel ’ s existing mobile site . “ Integration with the POS , CRM and PMS system
is one of the most important things to consider from the start ,” says Doug Carrillo , vice president of sales and marketing at Virgin . “ Without integrating with your back-end systems , you can ’ t provide the level of services your guests need .”
