HOTEL COMPANIES VIE FOR GLOBAL SUPREMACY THROUGH BRAND NEW HOTELS, NEW BRANDS AND HOTEL CONVERSIONS.
Each year, the July / August issue of HOTELS Magazine features The List, a comprehensive ranking of the top hotel companies in the world and the top brands in hospitality as of the end of 2024. The List is an objective look by the numbers at growth and expansion and acts as a snapshot of how far the hotel industry has come in a year. Of course, every hotel has its own story— that’ s what makes the hotel industry unique.
In the top 10, Marriott International remains supreme with more than 1.6 million rooms worldwide, growing its global room count by more than 105,000 in the year. As of the end of 2024, Marriott was still clear of number two in the rankings, China’ s Jin Jiang International, by more than 200,000 more rooms. Three Chinese companies— Jin Jiang, H World Group and BTG Hotels— stayed in the top 10. H World jumped IHG Hotels & Resorts to take over the number four position this year.
On the brand side is where there was surprise: No longer can Holiday Inn Express claim world dominance. At almost 360,000 rooms globally, H World’ s HanTing Hotels is now the top dog, with Holiday Inn Express and Hampton by Hilton numbers two and three, respectively.
And though Marriott commands the highest room count worldwide, when it comes to number of properties, it’ s Jin Jiang for the win at more than 14,000, having added more than 1,000 hotels in the year.
