Tell us about your journey to artistic director .
I started as the floral decorator but after working on a few different projects within the hotel that role began to expand . Some of my early contributions outside of floral arrangements included work in the libraries – we have one main library and an impressive 18 additional libraries located within various riads – along with establishing a proper inventory of the
|
paintings throughout the hotel . I felt it was important for the staff to know about the incredible artwork we have , so I created a booklet that details the 550 contemporary Moroccan paintings at the hotel . From there , I was asked to oversee other areas such as entertainment , artistic events and decorative items .
What drew you to hospitality ?
I was originally in the finance and accounting
|
field . I took that path as a way to please my parents but found it to be incredibly boring . After six years in France my husband finally convinced me to follow my true passion of floral decoration .
Where do you find inspiration outside your industry ?
Nature is an inexhaustible source of inspiration , but I also look to the fashion world to draw from the designers ’ various colors ,
|
shapes and textures . I am also a very nostalgic person ; I love history and anything retro or vintage , so that plays into my design themes as well .
What are you reading right now ?
I love reading magazines for the latest in fashion and décor – this includes international titles like Vogue , Harper ’ s Bazaar , Architectural Digest , Ideat , L ’ Officeil and Coté Sud along
|
with local fashion magazines that highlight Moroccan designers .
Who has influenced you ?
My godfather , who passed in 2017 , was a sculptor and professor of plastic art named Ygor Lefloch . He shared his love for art with me , and thanks to him I had the opportunity to meet a number of artists during my years of study in France that helped me discover art as a universal language .
