New York was the place to be on November 13 as HOTELS honored its 2017 Hoteliers of the World at a gala at the Lotte New York Palace . Along with friends , family , past winners and other hoteliers , the event acknowledged the contributions of Corporate Hotelier of the World William Heinecke of Minor International , Bangkok , and Independent Hotelier of the World Edward Mady , regional director of the Dorchester Collection and managing director of the Beverly Hills Hotel .
Both men spoke of their philosophy of hospitality : Heinecke said by sharing his passion on a global platform , he has been able to pursue even more of the things that are important to him . “ Minor ’ s success has given me the privilege of actively making a difference ,” he said . “ And this is something I strongly believe must be repaid in some way .”
Mady accepted his award in his first visit back to the Palace since he had been general manager ; earlier , he ’ d worked at the property for the legendary Leona Helmsley and then again with the Dorchester Collection . “ Everyone has helped me become a better coach , a better team leader ,” he said . “ It ’ s with tears of joy that I have to tell you that I start to recognize and take an inventory of the things that have gone on in my career and in my life .”
