47 AND KICKING
A new year always brings new opportunities . Here at HOTELS we are always self-evaluating and looking for ways to deliver better products — be it in print or digitally . In 2012 , we made enhancements to our digital edition by enriching the content with embedded video interviews as well as important links , slideshows and timelines . We turned our blog e-newsletter into a daily product alongside our online daily news service , and we made every effort to interview the industry ’ s best and brightest about timely topics to provide you with insights and ideas to help you better do your jobs as hoteliers . So what will we do for an encore in 2013 ?
Expect more videos , blogs and webinars , as well as more selective coverage in our daily news service , as we understand how important your time is and don ’ t want to be known as another aggregator giving you every little thing being churned out in an always aggressive marketplace . And because we are now mobile consumers you can easily access us on your smartphone , tablet or laptop , as our online products have been optimized across the three platforms .
In March , we will present our first webinar of 2013 , showcasing some of the best winning entries from HOTELS ’ 2012 Social Hotel Awards . Watch this space and our website for sign-up information , and then start thinking about your own entries for 2013 , as the awards program will be back again , and better . Social Hotel Award entry forms will be available soon , and I encourage you to showcase your very best efforts in the social media arena , as well as get recognized for your successes .
First , though , as you turn the pages of this month ’ s issue of HOTELS , take note of what comes first and then what comes last , as we have tweaked the Global Update and Lagniappe sections .
We know how your reading habits are evolving and that you don ’ t always have as much time , so our opening Global Update section now has more , shorter stories that we hope deliver the same value . While will be more concise in our writing , we will continue to get the answers to the most important questions for hard-working hoteliers . We will profile the hot people , companies and concepts as well as provide insight into topical areas such as social media and CSR . The Lagniappe page at the back of the magazine now features a more lighthearted profile of a global hotelier who has interesting things to say about everything from what they do to find more emotional fuel for long work days , to the best idea they ever stole and what historical figure they would like to host for dinner .
At the end of the day , our raison d ’ être remains the same : provide ideas to help you better do your job , offer insight into the trends of the day and even entertain you just a bit . As always , we encourage your feedback and ideas as we strive to make HOTELS , now in its 47th year , the best global community center for hoteliers .
