Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles has been beloved by celebrity guests and regular folks alike since it first opened in 1946 , which made the two-year renovation project that closed the property in 2009 especially challenging . Although many cherished elements were retained , the renovated hotel — reopened in October 2011 — puts a fresh spin on the glamor of old Hollywood and includes new offerings such as 12 hillside guestrooms and suites ( above ) that feature sweeping canyon views , spacious decks and private pools .
