Marriott ’ s first Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy , the Casa Costera , Isla Verde , in San Juan , Puerto Rico , has 107 units and a rooftop pool .

T he pandemic changed us — how we live , how we interact , how we move around , how we travel . The work-from-anywhere model that many companies have embraced has allowed people to untether themselves from a stationary lifestyle , giving them the opportunity to live a more peripatetic lifestyle , one that melds work and play .

Many hotel companies have set forth with new messaging and / or new brands to tap into this model . One of the newest is Marriott International ’ s Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy ,
which was announced in November 2022 as apartmentstyle accommodations in the premium and luxury segments . As Marriott put forward in its initial press release , “ The company is seizing upon growing consumer interest among families and friends seeking more space for stays , propelled by the blending of work and leisure travel , and the desire among younger travelers for wider accommodations options .”
Now , a year later since the introduction of the brand , the first one is open : Casa Costera , Isla Verde , Apartments by
Marriott Bonvoy , in San Juan , Puerto Rico .
This is not the first time Marriott has dabbled in apartment-style accommodations . It ’ s had 26 years of experience with Marriott Executive Apartments , its serviced-apartment brand in Asia , Europe , Middle East , Africa and Latin America . However , this concept , while global , will also fit U . S . and Canadian markets .
Marriott is also keen to separate the brand from other extended-stay offerings it currently has , such as Residence
Inn , TownePlace Suites and Element . In its release , Marriott said that these properties will be in the upper-upscale to luxury segments and “ is distinguished from Marriott ’ s existing extended-stay brands with distinctly designed properties incorporating sophisticated design and décor elements that reflect the local neighborhood for independent travelers seeking more space and residential amenities .”
