Adrian Zecha was many things before he became a developer and hotelier . But just don ’ t call him a visionary . “ He hates that word ,” a longtime associate says . If you ask Zecha , he ’ ll tell you it ’ s a combination of luck — and a lot of hard work — that led him on the path to Aman as well as his most recent brand , the 3-star Azerai . “ Luck means you are given something that you never expected and never thought of — not that you were planning it ,” Zecha says .

Andrew Zobler is coming off one of the most demanding years in his career as founder and chief executive officer of Sydell Group . Last year , the company — which created the NoMad , Line and Freehand hotel brands and also manages The Saguaro brand — opened five new hotels , including Park MGM Resort and Casino in Las Vegas , a partnership with MGM Resorts . More impressively , three of those hotels opened within the first month of the year . It ’ s just a snapshot of a hotelier career that has been at once predictable and completely unexpected .
