P
eople call me a “solo army” entrepreneur.
However, this is not enough to run the
entire magazine on my own. I was very
close to my due date when I launched
the magazine. For the second issue, I had
already given birth and was working from
the hospital, when I was told by frustrated
doctors to close my laptop.
I never stopped even after the birth
of Viktoria; moreover, Business Dubai
Magazine has been honored to receive two
fascinating awards. First as media partner:
the UAE Innovation Award 2018 under
the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin
Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai
Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai
Airports, Chairman and Chief Executive
of Emirates Group, the UAE Innovation
Chapter under Dubai Quality Group, and
second a month later Emirates Women
Award 2019 under the patronage of H.H.
Sheikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum,
Chairman and Chief Executive Emirates
Group, and the patronage of Dubai Quality
Group.
In its short history, Business Dubai Magazine
has been liked and accepted by thousands
of business professionals.
To reach this point, I had to endure a long
and difficult journey. I told myself, don’t
stop when it’s difficult, stop when it’s
impossible. I founded and brought to life
“Business Dubai” magazine alone-without
an editorial team.
he idea of the magazine originated from
networking in a business platform. I used
T
to be a member of more than fourteen
business councils in Dubai, annually I
participated in more than 200 meetings
and issued around 5000 business cards.
So, I decided to create a business
magazine, providing an opportunity to
business professionals to talk about their
businesses and share their experiences:
a chance for people from the mover and
shaker down to the humble employee
who is devoted to their job and career.
The journey I went through, was more
than a business adventure. It was a life
journey. I was confronted by a lot of
critics who questioned me, doubted my
idea and tried to bring me down. I can’t
pretend that I wasn’t affected by those
comments, they really did knock the
wind out of my sails at the time.
hey told me I cannot compete against
other business magazines, who have
already been in the market for years
and years- but I don’t even think about
the competition, my concept and the
philosophy of the magazine is different.
They told me I cannot survive without the
digital version of the magazine- but how
many of us read online magazines? How
many read the news online – probably
only the head titles.
T
I WANT TO SAY
“The stars will never align, and the traffic lights
of life will never all be green at the same time.
The universe doesn’t conspire against you,
but it doesn’t go out of its way to line up the
pins either. Conditions are never perfect. Set
high standards for yourself and don’t settle for
anything less. YOU are the best judge of yourself
and your capabilities. Step up!! Dream bigger.
Just think about the thing that you would like to
accomplish the most, and then double it.
AND BEFORE I WOULD SAY
You might not get there, maybe you might only
get half of the way there. Maybe you might get
only a quarter of the way there. Nevertheless,
you have to believe in yourself because if not
you, who else is going to believe in you?
BUT TODAY
Who else? All the contributors of the first issue,
they are the ones who believed me, they are the
one who said “yes” to the presentation of the
magazine I used to make by my iPad, they are
the ones who signed a contract with me.
P.S. Special thank you to my Mother and my
husband. He is the one who told me – “Don’t
give up if were easy everybody else would do it”.
