This October, the Ubud Writers and Readers
Festival, Southeast Asia's most renowned
literary event, is set to celebrate its 10th
anniversary. Alila Ubud is a key partner of
the event and will play host to several distinguished literary talents throughout the event.
Held over five days, Ubud Writers and
Readers Festival will feature over 130 writers across all genres and disciplines, including travel writers, songwriters, playwrights,
poets, comedians and graphic novelists from
all over the world.

The festival, taking place between the 11th15th October, will feature an array of celebrated local and international authors,
including bestselling UK author Sebastian
Faulks (Birdsong, Devil May Care), Lionel
Shriver (We Need to Talk about Kevin), publishing entrepreneur and Lonely Planet cofounder Tony Wheeler, legendary Australian
cartoonist Michael Leunig. The Festival also
welcomes 2013 Man Booker long-listed
authors Ruth Ozeki (A Tale for the Time
Being) and Tash Aw (Five Star Billionaire) as
well as India’s ‘first literary popstar’ Amish
Tripathi. Other international guests include
David Vann (Legend of a Suicide), twotime Miles Franklin winner Kim Scott (That
Deadman Dance), American talent Nami
Mun, and one of France’s most prolific writers Alain Mabanckou.
A number of the festival’s events will be held
in Alila Ubud, sited high above the Ayung
River valley in the traditional Balinese hill
village of Payangan.

Returning to its original theme 'Through
