MONTH IN REVIEW MONTH IN REVIEW www.hotelowner.co.uk HOTEL OPENINGS Hampton by Hilton opens first hotel in the Middle East Hampton by Hilton has opened its first hotel in the Middle East with the opening of Hampton by Hilton Dubai Airport, the largest property in Hampton’s global portfolio. The contemporary 420-room hotel is located near the Dubai International Airport and the Dubai Airport Freezone Authority (DAFZA). Hampton by Hilton Dubai Airport also features a state-of-the-art rooftop gym with panoramic views of the Dubai skyline, a large infinity pool and a fully licensed bar. The opening of Hampton by Hilton Dubai Airport is the brands latest commitment to international growth, driven by concerted efforts in China and Latin America, while deepening its reach in the U.S., Middle East and Europe. The opening bolsters Hampton’s international footprint of more than 2,380 hotels in 22 countries and territories. With the largest pipeline in the brand’s history and in the Hilton enterprise with 620 planned hotels. Hampton recently opened its first hotel in Kazakhstan, and soon will enter into Argentina, Chile and France. Shruti Gandhi Buckley, global head Hampton by Hilton, said: “Hampton continues to bring quality accommodations, strong value, and outstanding service everywhere travelers need and want to be.” 8 www.hotelowner.co.uk CELEBRITIES Amy Winehouse and David Bowie immortalised at Hard Rock Hotel London Hard Rock Hotel London has that musicians such as Amy Winehouse and David Bowie will be immortalised in commissioned art that will be put on display in the hotel’s 1,000 bedrooms and suites, upon opening in spring 2019. Partnering with internationally renowned photographer, Terry O’Neill and photography archive, Iconic Images, the series of artwork will and immortalise the world’s biggest music and culture icons. O’Neill has shot countless global music and screen icons, with his work hanging in national art galleries and private collections worldwide. The collaboration will see Hard Rock Hotel London guests discover unique images of iconic musicians. Exhibited across all of the hotel’s suites and bedrooms, the artwork will be a visual homage to the biggest names in the industry, many of whom have previously stayed at the property. Joining Winehouse, Hendrix and Bowie on the hotel walls will be Elton John, Diana Ross, Madonna and Mick Jagger. Terry O’Neill said: “The inspiration for the Hard Rock Hotel collaboration really comes from the music, and the rich musical history the site of the new hotel holds. It seems like anyone who was anyone went through the lobby, stood outside the doors, or played gigs across the road in Hyde Park. Some of my fondest memories are of taking the shots that will be showcased, and they have found a fantastic home at the new Hard Rock Hotel London” 1 2 3 4 5 6 REFURBISHMENT Gleneagles Hotel posts revenue of £51m thanks to refurbishment The five-red-star-AA Gleneagles Hotel has reported a 7.5% increase in revenue to £51.2m as its ongoing refurbishment helped to “further enhance Gleneagles’ position as a ‘Glorious Playground’”. In its latest accounts filed with Companies House for the full-year period ending 31 December 2017, the 232-room hotel also reported pre-tax profits of £505,000. The accounts also showed that a dividend of £63m was paid as part of a refinancing of the business to fund further investment in the property. The hotel has been undergoing a multi-million pound refurbishment since the property was acquired by current owner Ennismore from drinks company Diageo in July 2015. David Kemp, finance director, said: “Financial performance in the year was strong, with turnover increasing by 7.5% over the same period last year.
