Ludlow hotel
reopens following
Legionnaires
death
The Feathers Hotel in Ludlow has
reopened after two guests contracted
Legionnaires disease leading to one of
their deaths.
The hotel was closed for two months
as Public Health England tested its
water samples.
The results came back clear, leading
to the reopening of the bar and
restaurant on Tuesday. The rooms
were reopened to the guests today
(Thursday 16 November).
The Feathers Hotel closed on 13
September after two guests, both from
Merseyside contracted the illness. The
first guest, a woman in her 70s, was
diagnosed in April this year and has
since recovered.
The second guest, a woman in her
60s who stayed at the hotel in July, is
understood to have died mid-August.
Shropshire Council and Public
Health England said they were
satisfied that necessary precautions
were taken to “identify possible
sources of contamination” but will
continue to undertake “thorough and
ongoing controls”.
A formal investigation is currently
taking place and is expected to last for
a “significant period of time”.
