T
his month we check into Jatujak
Market at the heart of Bangkok.
Jatujak, also known as J.J. Market
is one of the world’s largest
weekend markets, open from 06:00 to
18:00; it is a perfect way to spend your
Saturday and Sunday.
Getting there is easy: one can go to the
BTS’s Mo Chit station or take the MRT.
Getting lost in there is easy too: 27 acres
of land combined with half a million
visitors every weekend makes maps an
indispensable amenity when strolling
around. Some however, prefer to get
lost, as the 15,000 stalls grant plenty
of opportunities to lose your notion
of time and inmerse yourself in the
deepest of shopping sprees. There are so
many booths in Jatujak that the general
shopper’s rule is to buy something if you
like it – if you choose to come back later;
chances are you might never find the
place again.
The stands are varied in nature: one
can find clothes and accessories at
very reasonable prices. Shirts, trousers,
dresses, shoes, earrings, necklaces… you
name it and Jatujak has it. It’s tempting
to walk in, be enamoured by the first
shop you see and buy everything in it,
only to realize it is sold in a number
of booths at lower prices. Thus, it’s
advisable to walk around first to get a
general feeling of what is common and
what you should purchase upon mere
sight.
Jatujak also offers a great variety of
food stalls, something that will delight
those with hungry stomachs. One can
find all different types of things to
