Despite having a number of offers to join several com- panies in the industry, it was not about hopping from one job to another. This shows from the fact that Shawn has worked for three companies in eighteen years. something new, different and a place where whatev- er I learnt throughout the years could be put into practice and leave a positive imprint. Something that could be created together. From a leading and well established Five Star interna- tional chain, to a totally new venture... what was your initial response to this prospect, we asked? Shawn explains in a frank manner that his excitement towards the project escalated incrementally. As an an- alytical person, Shawn did his research and was yet to be convinced of the presented strategy. What won Shawn over was that the organisation be- hind Urban Valley held the same synergised outlook on the industry, as well as enough room for develop- ment and improvement for Shaun to put to practice much of what he had learnt along the way. All doubts were however allayed when a meeting took place with the owners. Although the interac- tion was limited, there was a very clear perception that this was a company that wanted to listen and was convinced that this would be the right time to move onto the next step of my career – to work on I ask Shawn about the background behind the crea- tion of Urban Valley Resort and Spa. “The objective is to create a unique urban hotel which can cater for clustered segments independently, mak- ing the most of the location. After a few months of operating, I can already see that this will become a leading resort – we are confident that the product is unique in its segment,” he enthusiastically told us.
