Every year, HOSA members have the option to volunteer for a night, from 5 to 9 pm at Boo at the Zoo, located at Riverbank Zoo in Columbia, SC. This year, 30 HOSA members spent the night of October 25th at the zoo, interacting with kids who came dressed up for the fun activities the zoo had planned. Members passed out candy, gave out cards on interesting facts about animals at the zoo, and took pictures for the visitors. HOSA members had a busy night, enthusiastically talking with families and getting kids excited for the upcoming Halloween night. This experience helped broaden communication and interaction skills, which are important for a healthcare professional. Boo at the Zoo is one of the most anticipated events of the year. Not only is it a fun event for both the volunteers and the kids, but it is also an educational experience for the prospective health care professionals. Boo at the Zoo has become more or less a tradition of our HOSA chapter, and we can’t wait to see how next year’s Boo at the Zoo will be like!
