local wedding Kate-Lyn Edwards & Skylar Grant By Arielle Soussan W hen Kate-Lyn Edwards chose the Buskirk-Chumley Theater as her wedding venue, she didn’t know what to expect. Luckily, she wasn’t alone in the planning process, and describes the experience as a collaboration: “The Buskirk was awesome in facilitating our needs.” This included an archway built by Skylar, the groom, on which flowers were arranged, as well as a chandelier to fit the Kate-Lyn and Skylar’s image of their fairy tale wedding. The Buskirk was paramount in bringing the fairy tale to life, evoking “magic, mysticism and beauty” for Kate-Lyn due to her experience as a theater performer and director on the Buskirk stage, including in a production of Peter Pan. Kate-Lyn and Skylar first met at Bloomington South High School at a jazz dance eight years ago.She characterizes him as “a life is a party type of guy” with a penchant for extravagance and surprises, who surprised her with an intimate and quiet proposal at the 3rd st. park fountain after a long trip across Australia, China and Thailand. She describes having the certainty that he was the one “you see how compatible you are, how you groove as a team, and that they’re someone you can build a life with. Someone who’s your partner through thick and thin.” Kate-Lyn was drawn to the elegance and classical feeling of the venue. Its large size enabled the bride and groom to host the reception and the wedding in the same space, but the various sections such as the balcony, where the bride and groom were wed, allowed for a certain intimacy as well.
