HOOPS ELITE MAGAZINE 2018 GIRLS EBC WATCH LIST SLAM CITY MANAGEMENT GROUP PLAYER NAME: KARIS YU GRADE 2014-15: 10TH After a long season are you ready for the grind of summer basketball with the new Elevate Basketball Circuit? Yes. I can’t wait to get back to train with Coach Webb and my Slam City team. I look forward to this year especially because we will be competing at the EBC against some of the best teams in the country. This will help us to focus and work even harder. Last year was your first year playing with Slam City, we understand that you and your Slam City team improved over the course of the season. Do you feel like you and team will be able to compete at a high level this coming season? Why? I have gotten to know my teammates better over the past year. And I think we have gotten better playing as a team and at executing the plays. We have a lot to work on between now and the start of the EBC season, but all of us are fully committed to working hard and preparing ourselves for the season. This is a great challenge and look forward to bringing home the championship ring to Slam City girls basketball program. Explain why you choose to play with Slam City when there are a lot of other teams you could play for in the Washington Metropolitan area? I chose Slam City because of its emphasis on fundamentals and teamwork. Even though it’s a young program for the girls team, I am impressed with the level of commitment the coaches have in training us to be better players and preparing us to play at the collegiate level. Do you just play in events or do you train with Slam City too? What do you like most about Slam City’s program? I train and play on the Slam City team. What I like most about Slam City program is the quality of coaches. Coach Webb is committed to making sure everyone on his team improve regardless of their skills. He constantly challenges and inspires me to be a better player during every training. I also like the fact that Slam City is a year round program. So during off season, I train with the coach and my teammates which makes it easy when we come together as a team. Do you feel like you have a chance to get exposure with the Slam City program, and do you feel like the EBC will also help you get exposure? Absolutely. Everyone on the team feels like they are part of the team. And participating in the EBC and competing against some of the best teams in the country will get the exposure I need to play at the collegiate level. 22 | Issue 2 - March 2015 What would you like to accomplish by the end of the summer? As a guard, I would like to learn to make quick decisions on the court and play with confidence. I would also like to improve my speed and strength.
