It is with great sadness that I report on the passing
of our much respected colleague, Hym Ebedes. Hym
was an enthusiastic pioneer in the field of wildlife
veterinary medicine and will be best remembered
for his major contributions in the fields of chemical
capture of wildlife and the use of long acting
tranquilisers in wildlife
for transport or captive
acclimatisation.
In addition, Hym was a firm
champion of animal welfare,
and was outspoken against
unprofessional capture and
transport techniques for
wildlife, as well as the use
of inadequate or poorly
designed holding facilities.
His passion for welfare in
both wild and domestic
animals took him as far
afield as Australia, the
Middle East, Spain, Hong
Kong and China. In addition,
he worked across many
African Countries, advising
on and investigating
