HOOKED ON THOUGHTS As anglers and outdoorsmen, enjoying our pastime requires we pay careful attention to the weather. This is especially important now that we are at the height of an unusually active hurricane season. South Texas took a hit unlike any we’ve ever seen before just two weeks ago, and as you read this, no doubt you are keeping a close eye on hurricane Irma as she continues building strength and bar- reling toward the southeastern United States. In fact, I won’t go any further without saying that everyone here at Hooked Up Magazine is sincerely sympathetic to all of those whose lives have been devas- tated by hurricane Harvey, and especially to the families of those that lost friends and loved ones in its brutal wake. Yet, as is the case after all catastrophes in this great country, Amer- icans have dropped their different mindsets and worked hand in hand, risking their own lives to rescue fellow countrymen. Again, the worst of times has brought out the very best in our people. On an extremely lighter note, we have another great issue for you. Inside you’ll find piles of new products that should perk you up, and a bevy of new angling techniques to add to your ever-growing rep- ertoire – weather permitting. John N. Felsher teaches us about another tried-and-true lure known among bass anglers for hauling lunkers out of the lilies that works just as well on salty redfish holed up deep in the coastal reeds. Who knew? And, Bass 2 Billfish’s Peter Miller makes sure you don’t miss a fish in the entire water column, by making sure you understand the finer nuances and versatility in the art of vertical jigging. Additionally, you’ll tag along with two esteemed captains—Barrera and Zyak—as they hunt the shallows for trophies in Texas’ famed Laguna Madre (pre Harvey, of course), and find them.
