ASQUITH
New for 2017, Shimano proudly introduce their Asquith family of fly reels in
3/4 and 7/8 sizes. Small, tight, and super-light, the Asquith 3/4 is packed with
creek-crushing features. Designed for anglers looking for a compact design and
slick modern esthetics, the Asquith 7/8 boasts machined, full-frame construction,
a robust drag system, and blacked-out cosmetics.
Both Asquith fly reels are designed around Shimano’s Hagane Body technology,
showcasing Shimano’s no-distortion and no-flex frame machining capabilities.
These precision reels are made with lightweight aluminum and a full-frame
design, meaning less line tangle. The use of Shimano’s proprietary CI4+ material
contributes to the lightweight handle. Protection from the elements – critical in
saltwater - comes from a sealed drag system and two shielded ARB (anti-rust)
bearings. “This is only the beginning for Shimano and our efforts in the North
American fly fishing market. We plan on expanding the Asquith fly reel series
so we can offer the right size and needed features to match with all of the G.
Loomis/Shimano Asquith rods,” stated Shimano. Either way you go, Asquith
reels look fast and are built to last.
With the new NASCI reels, “anglers will quickly notice a g
performance from most reels in the $100 price range,” said Sh
manager Chris Hess. “Along with our Hagane Gear and Cor
also offers G-Free Body design so the center of gravity is closer
fatigue, a thicker, more durable bail wire, and Shimano’s X-Shi
support the pinion gear to efficiently transmit reeling power.”
Additional NASCI features include a rigid aluminum cold forged
and an easy to adjust large front drag knob. “On the 1000
reels, we use felt drag washers that perform best for fishing s
10 pounds of drag pressure,” explains Hess. “On the NASCI
CrossCarbon drag washer to better handle the higher drag
inshore fishing situations.“
