F ifteen years ago, while wandering the floor of Talla- hassee’s civic center during the North Florida Boat Show, I came across a small boat that called to me. I was surrounded by vessels of all makes, colors and sizes, but this 15-foot flats boat had the look, the features, and the craftsmanship to pull me in. The maker was new to me, as they were a young company from South Carolina, but their name sounded cool and their dedication to a smart layout and quality build was too apparent to pass up. I bought that 15-foot Sea Hunt on the spot. Today, that father-and-son company has grown to propor- tions that I’m sure even they couldn’t have dreamed. They now have a deep lineup of vessels in all of the popular variet- ies, with their largest offshore offering topping out at 30 feet. But they haven’t let their growth diminish their attention to detail. Every boat they build today will capture your admira- tion just as it did mine 15 years ago. RZR 24 The boat I want to bring to your attention today is Sea Hunt’s RZR 24. Many obvious features make this bay boat special, but the most notable is probably its stepped hull. A properly engineered stepped hull is a performance game changer in the boating arena, and Sea Hunt nailed it when hookedupdesigns.com they developed the underside of their RZR 24. It is also Sea Hunt’s first bay boat ever to offer this performance-enhanc- ing technology. From topside, another glaring distinction is the presence of a coffin box. Not a feature ever seen on a 24-foot bay boat before. To be clear, we’re not talking about the kind of cof- fin box you see on 36-foot offshore boats that can consume a limit of 100-pound amberjack. But it is large enough for lounging, with ample room below the cushions to accom- modate an eight-gallon livewell and dual tackle stations. The reason is this: Once a boat gets into the 24-foot range, it has enough room on board to become multi-functional. The RZR 24 is without a doubt a serious fishing platform, but in this age of fishing hard one day and then taking the family out to the sand bar the next, Sea Hunt made sure it could handle both duties. FOR THE FAMILY When the rest of your clan feels it’s their turn to enjoy your investment, the RZR 24 won’t disappoint. It either comes with, or can be outfitted with everything needed for a comfortable day of pleasure cruising or island hopping. Youngsters may fight over the coffin box lounge forward of the console, but veterans know the smoothest ride will be M AY / J U N E 2 0 1 7 HOOKED UP 25
